Giving Tuesday 2019
Today is a special day for A Través, because it demonstrates the power of communities. We are delighted work across the state of Georgia, to nurture creativity by way of the arts, in not just one city, but many.
We believe flamenco helps a person better understand people far away, neighbors who are nearby, and ourselves. We know that learning about flamenco is not limited to a classroom or studio. It also happens in the theater. This is why we believe in traveling across the state with flamenco in its many forms, to reveal its potential of discovery for people of all ages.
Today, we’re asking those who believe in this mission with us to consider making a donation of any amount to help us create programs with long-lasting connections in our state. Donate today >>
In the past, we have demonstrated our connection to communities through our after school programs that serve elementary students and teenagers, who are learning Spanish, teamwork, and discovering that they can do much more than they imagined.
“I was surprised at how much faster I pick up things.” – Zoë, DeKalb School of the Arts High School Student
“I learned a new way to count.” – Amaya, DeKalb School of the Arts High School Student
“It surprised me that I could understand lots of the Spanish” – Dolores, DeKalb School of the Arts High School Student
We also established the Atlanta Flamenco Festival in 2019, with performances and classes by world class artists in October and November of this year. Atlanta is rich with places to share in the arts, and it has been our good fortune to work with some of these music venues, schools, cultural centers, and arts presenters to bring flamenco to its fans and those who have just found it.
In 2020, we will continue our mission, in presenting after-school flamenco classes and the Atlanta Flamenco Festival, and in introducing La Feria Atlanta in May. Our newest production will be a place where flamenco meets the celebrations and customs where the art form reflects daily life in Spain.
This work is possible only with the support of businesses and individuals who believe that flamenco is for everyone. Ticket sales and tuition payments only cover 30% of the cost of bringing artists from Spain to our communities. Contributions of any amount will fund our programming in 2020, as we share flamenco with Georgia. Please consider supporting A Través today during Giving Tuesday. Donate today >>
